8-Limbs of Yoga
Classically it is said that Yoga has 8 Limbs. Expect to explore one or more of these 8 Limbs for a full experience of the art and science of Yoga in all its glory. You will experience a balance of practice and discussion or Yoga Philosophy, Sanskrit Sutra chanting, asana, pranayama, and relaxation and meditation techniques. These classes are all levels, and enriching for newbies as well as those wanting to advance their practice.
The 8-Limbs are: External and Internal Practices for Living a Yogic Life, Yoga Poses, Yogic Breath, Inward Reflection, Concentration, Meditation, and Bliss
5 am Sadhana
Chant the Lalita Sahasranama and other sacred Sanskrit texts with Sumukhi to super-charge your Friday, calm the senses and elevate your consciousness.
Please pre-register online, as this is a silent class (except for the chanting) no words will be spoken or financial transactions completed during/before/after class.
We have several copies of the Lalita Sahasranama available at the studio, but in case we run out, please bring your own copy.

Ashtanga style yoga is a form of hatha yoga based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the teachings of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois. It includes the study of the eight limbs of yoga, including ujjayi breathing pranayama and a flowing Vinyasa series of poses. Ashtanga classes at Yoga Illumined follow the primary sequence of asana, vinyasa and pranayama as set by the lineages of Krishnamacharya. These classes are both invigorating and meditative at the same time—come try it and see!

Big Boy Yoga
Are you big? Are you bad? Are you burly?
This is yoga for dudes of all shapes, sizes and ability levels– particularly for those who have never tried yoga or feel inhibited or inflexible. Come try yoga in a bro-friendly environment.

The “teacher” becomes part of the collective in this minimally-led practice session, where everyone, including the teacher, rolls out their mat and practices together. Format changes week to week, but expect light-hearted explorations into challenging poses and unexpected sequences that play with the edge and dance us into new territory.
Inspired Hatha Yoga
This class sources its inspiration from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the 8-limbs of Yoga,Iyengar’s Light on Yoga, Fundamentals of Yoga and other classic Yoga philosophy texts. This class is alignment-based hatha Yoga, infused with inspiration, breathwork, and deliberate meditation, mantra, and yin poses – practice at slower pace, enjoy your time on the mat, and leave feeling inspired.
A sacred Mantra + Meditation Practice: The Medicine Buddha practice is the heart of healing. It promotes health, prevents diseases, gives protection and to stabilizes the ecological system from natural disasters. This altruistic practice of love and compassion is a beautiful instrument to remove pains caused by ignorance and disease.
Class attendance is by donation, no online pre-registration is necessary. All are welcome!
Yoga is best when shared with friends! Come with a buddy or arrive solo and pair up with other yogis in class. Partner poses for deeper stretching, balance challenges, and aerial flights of fun! All levels welcome.
A modern blend of ancient practices focused on QiGong and Kundalini. This all-levels class will energize you, make you sweat, and leave you with a glow.
This class follows a moving, flowing vinyasa-style format. Expect to sweat and enjoy a workout while you move on your mat. You will leave class with a glow.
Sunset Slowdown Restorative
A deeply relaxing way to unwind, relieves physical and mental stress, and prepare for restful sleep. Luxuriate in 5-7 gentle postures, held for 5-10 minutes each, using props to allow the body to feel totally supported and able to release and mend. Stretches of the connective tissue, with emphasis on the spine, hips, neck and shoulders, promote mobility and pain management, while a meditative state calms the mind and heart. Pre-reg here.
This class is a gentle Yoga for women at any stage of cancer survival.
Vocal Power and Embodiment
**This is a special class series. You must pre-register directly through the teacher, follow instructions for registration below**
Come work on your Vocal Technique, Embodiment, and Power in weekly classes. Reap the benefits in business and personal relations, vocal and movement artistry, and develop a stronger connection to your voice. Classes delve into solid techniques that open and connect you to your instrument, fostering a greater sense of presence, and deeply connecting you to body, mind, and spirit. Appropriate for all vocal professionals (teachers, actors, etc.) and anyone wanting to find the power and connection that comes from intentional, supported communication.
Class meets Friday mornings starting May 29th to June 19th from 10:00 to 11:30 at Yoga Illumined on South Congress. Free parking in the back!

Melissa is a Vocal Expert with 16 years teaching experience. She is an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, has studied Knight-Thompson Speechwork, Presence with Patsy Rodenburg, and Body-Mind Centering at the Body-Mind Centering Institute and with Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen. She is currently pursuing a certificate as a Somatic Movement Educator. She is an Associate Professor of Voice and Speech at Texas State University and also runs her own business, Austin Vocal Empowerment. Clients have included yogis, Somatic Therapists, actors such as Kyle Chandler (Wolf of Wallstreet, Super 8), Dr. Victoria DeFrancesco (MSNBC), Craig Nigh (Breaking Bad), Yoga and Voice teachers, and people looking to fully express their True Self.

Yoga for Athletes
Consider this class a “tune-up” for the over-worked and under-stretched muscles that athletes use in all sports. This class focuses on alignment in each posture and will touch those hard to reach areas of your entire body.
This class meets off-site. Sign up online, meet at a trail head and go for a lead hike with a focus on mindfulness and breathe, then take a Yoga stretch break before returning to the trail-head. It’s hiking! It’s Yoga! It’s a YogaHike!
