We created Yoga Illumined as a program to help folks integrate the wisdom of Yoga into everyday life. We are honored to now bring Ayurveda into play for so many of our students, viewers and friends. Ayurveda, the ancient science of longevity and healing, is a very useful and effective way to live a balanced and healthy life. It is a great complement to Yoga.
What we’ve found is that a certain vocabulary must first be honed in order to understand the basics of Ayurveda. Our curriculum is designed to bring this language and Ayurvedic principles into your living room, your kitchen and your home.
Our modern world is hurried, harried, full of conscious and unconscious pressures and stresses. Yoga and Ayurveda provide antidotes to these daily stresses. With fast food restaurants, packed schedules, distractions everywhere, it can seem impossible to live a healthy, conscious life. Yoga Illumined Ayurveda is a solution for anyone who wants to live a healthy, yogic lifestyle in our modern world.
With claims and advertising for so many products, supplements, super foods, labels such as “organic”, it can be confusing to discern what, in fact, is healthy for you to eat. Our introduction to the Doshas, the three bodily constitutions of Ayurveda: Vata (air and atmosphere), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (earth and water), will be elaborated upon in later segments, but should give you a basic understanding of what Doshas are. In later segments, we will show you how to figure out your unique Dosha, but always encourage you to consult with an Ayurvedic physician in person to get a more precise assessment. Additionally, Yoga Illumined Ayurveda “in the Kitchen” provides online cooking classes to guide you into introducing Ayurvedic recipes into your diet. Watch our video and make yourselves and your loved ones the Ojas date shake. “Ojas”, in Sanskrit, is “vitality,” “sap” or “juice” of your body’s life force. We’ve also included videos on “How to make ghee.” Ghee is clarified butter and is considered one of the most medicinal and healing substances of Ayurveda.
